Skin Essentials for Winter

Hello New Genesis Friends!

It’s a new year and we’re all thinking about positive changes to make in our lives.  We have created imbalances from not-so-great-habits due to our hectic schedules and now feeling the results!

Good news!! We can make a difference in our skin’s health and appearance.  It’s important to think in terms of small steps towards a short term goal.  It’s not possible to climb a steep hill in one big step.  Once your positive intention is set, you will see other changes fall into place easily and effortlessly.

Our skin….Cold blustery winds, low outside temperatures, and dry indoor heating can all lead to dehydrated, tight, and irritated skin.  Pay attention to what it needs now, so you won’t be playing catch up and repair later.

Remember, your skin still needs exfoliation during this time even though it may feel dry.  Dead skin cells are still piling up creating a dull appearance, clogged pores, and a loss of vibrant appearance we love to see in the mirror!  A monthly PCA Peel for advanced exfoliation and clarity performed by your trusted skincare specialist and gentle at- home exfoliation is a wonderful boost to get those cells into shape.  On the flip side, we can’t forget about moisture!  All skin types need moisture, from both extremes of the skin type spectrum--oily/acne prone to dry and dehydrated.

Maintaining balance in your skin is crucial.  At least once a week, after gently cleansing your face morning and evening, take a moment to look closely in the mirror.  Notice how your skin looks and feels.  What does it need today?  A heavier or lighter moisturizer?  A little extra exfoliation?  A correcting treatment serum?  Just as your body’s nutrition needs change from time to time, your skin’s needs change as well.  Check in frequently with your skincare specialist, for expert advice and guidance.

Skin…your largest organ!  You deserve a few minutes of quiet time to focus and relax.  If you don’t care for you, who will?!

Antioxidants….  Foods have a powerful effect on our bodies…inside and out.  Anti-inflammatory effects of avocados, blueberries, walnuts, flaxseed, and wild salmon (a bite of high percentage  cocoa dark chocolate for dessert!) combined with a good night’s sleep works miracles for our skin.  In addition to these power house foods, adding a topical antioxidant- rich treatment serum to your routine is super beneficial!  For example, PCA’s Retinol Renewal infuses the skin with antioxidants & vitamins, increases cell turnover, and leaves your skin smoother, brighter, and more succulent looking!

Fun Tips… For help with dry, chapped lips (and for those with a little sweet tooth!), mix a little granulated sugar with honey and scrub in gentle circular motion.  Leave on for about 10 minutes and remove.   Also use the toothbrush method by coating your lips with a hydrating balm such as Silkcoat by PCA, then gently “brushing” the dead skin layers from the lips.  Always follow with a very nourishing lip treatment. Afterward, apply PCA’s Lip Peptide Therapy for increased resiliency, natural plumping and reduction of lip lines.

Don’t forget the rest of your body!! A wonderful at home treatment is warming a small amount of sesame oil and then apply all over your body as a calming massage.  Include your scalp and hair for extra conditioning and shine.  Shower immediately afterward to gently cleanse.  This treatment leaves your skin feeling yummy and nourished.

I look forward to meeting with you!  Helping you obtain the healthiest and best looking skin is my mission AND passion.  I can’t wait to help YOU!!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful and productive New Year!
